There are 4 things I always bring with me wherever I go:
- my laptop,
- my Canon SLR with at least 2GB in memory, small tripod, extra battery, flash,
- my pink ipod,
- my headphones (see picture below).
These items are locked into my memory with a priority stamp that reads: Level one (High Priority). I rarely, if ever, forget to bring these items on trips with durations over 3 hours long.
4 Things I often forget to bring with me wherever I go:
- water,
- snacks,
- money,
- personal identification i.e., driver’s license.
Got your priorities in order? Yes. Definitely. Good.
I’m glad we worked that out.

April 17, 2007 at 7:15 PMWow Lisa that is a lot to carry around! Good for you. You must have great upper body strength.
I usually carry around a big bag that is loaded with everything from enough toiletries to get me through a nuclear war to authorized copies of my degrees and university transcripts.
In terms of the photo equipment that I lug around I usually have my camera bag, an extra bag for flash, bracket, ect., and my tripod strapped on my back. It’s not very glamorous so I have to really work it if I’m out at a swanky party. Often people offer to watch or carry my gear for me but it never leaves my body. To risky…

April 18, 2007 at 11:45 AMLisa: She uses a strap from one of our duffel bags that surprisingly fits with her tripod!
1) Nikon D200+8GB CF card
2) An old 40GB iPod
3) The book that I’m currently reading
4) Map of Taipei
5) Paperblogging material (notebook & pens)
I have a good National Geographic shoulder bag in which it all fits nicely, but since I got myself some second hand backpacks, it’s a lot easier to carry around. I use an Ospey Atmos 25. The compression straps hold everything nice and snug. It can expand if I need to stuff more things in it. The NG bag had a modular camera holder, so I take that in my backpack.
What I tend to forget:
1) Umbrella
2) Raincoat
3) Water
I have those same headphones, although I used to use them to DJ!
They are quite big. I have never seen anybody walk around with them on their head. I broke mine; the tip which fits into the headphone jack broke. I’m hoping I can get it fixed soon.

April 18, 2007 at 1:03 PMwow that’s a wicked camera. i’m jealous. between the two of you, you must have so much gear. how do you find room in your place? i have cables and cases and lights and tripods hanging out of every cupboard and drawer.
PS. i do wear those headphones almost everywhere. it’s a bit ludicrous, and i get some looks, but i hate the ipod ear buds and i simply won’t sacrifice and sound quality. i’m very serious about sound quality. and with the right hat (i have two army type hats) they can look quite snappy.
