View from the Aria, Las Vegas

View from the Aria, Las Vegas
5DMKII + 16-35mm, 2 shots + Photomatix.

I was back in Vegas for NAB last week after some travel to Orlando & NYC… Pretty nice view from the Aria! The windows are pretty dirty so it was hard to avoid the blotchiness… but you get the idea :P I had to place my lens right up to the glass to avoid the room glare (even with all the lights turned off). It was tricky to get the angle using a tripod, so I had to hold the tripod in place while I shot. I used a black sweater to seal the lens against the window blocking all reflections on the window. Of course I forgot my lens hood, which would’ve helped the situation just a tad. :P

I’d be curious to see if you got any shots in Orlando (I’m a native here). Always interesting to see how others look at the place I see every day.

I’m heading to Aria on Saturday and now you have me hoping I get a room with a nice view like that, too. There are a lot of new cityscape vantage points now that I need to check out.

What a view! I have a very similar shot except it’s from the Vdara. Shot during the day, but the HDR helped. Great shot!

Unfortunately, my room faced the back and had a lovely view of a parking garage & I-15. I managed to get this shot, though with some difficulty with security. The story is on my blog:

Wow, very professional snap. I am just a beginner and am trying to look for inspiration from seasoned photographers.
    Thanks

Hi Lisa! I love your website, it is very inspirational. I’m 34 years old and only recently got into photography, all thanks to my iPhone 4 that I bought a few months ago. Since then, I’ve been playing around with some photography apps (and Camera+ of course!) and I still can’t believe the amazing photos that can be accomplished. Thanks to my new hobby, I just bought my first ever SLR a few weeks ago. My interest in photography is now completely out of control (in a good way) as in the last six months I’ve gone from “not interested in photography” to “I can’t get enough” and here I am today learning to make HDR images using the images from my SLR, all thanks to you and your website. Thank you for all the articles and inspiration!
