Acting in Vancouver

For Monday’s audition I must transform myself into a girl who has had her soul displaced by “Akiimu”, an ancient Babylonian spirit who wreaks havoc and murder wherever she goes. Apparently, ol’ Akiimu likes to hang out at sweet bars, make out with biker dudes, and dance to cheesy power ballads. There really is no accounting for taste.

Minus the murder part, I think I like this Akiimu chick

The murder part is a bit of a downer.

“We were having such a wicked party with ol’ Akiimu, then she displaced Mandy’s soul and ate Sam’s brain.”

    “Lame.”

    Any performance suggestions?

If you’re going to have to eat Sam’s brain I suggest pulling out the old Tony Hopkins fava bean brain eating mouth noise…which I can’t quite figure out how to articulate through written word….but I will give it a shot here:

    Ah.

Reason # 426 why I am not in show business.

    Creepy noise that.

Just out of curiousity, what is reason #425?

Reason #425 is that showtunes irritate me. Immensely.

A friend of mine is the owner and Artistic Director of the “William Davis Centre for Actors’ Study” in Vancouver. Have you had a chance to work with them at all?

Christine Willes is the owner and is not only a brilliant actor and educator, but is also a delightful person. If you’re familiar with the Showtime series “Dead Like Me,” she played the character of “Delores Herbig.” The father of the main character, a girl named “George Lass,” is played by Greg Kean who is also an instructor at the Davis Centre.

If you are serious about persuing a career in the art and profession of acting, I would highly recommend that you seek them out.

I wish you well in your acting endeavors.

    Be well.

(BTW, in case you are wondering how I know Chris, I am a Director / Actor / Educator as well. I am Head of the Fine Arts and Director of Theatre at a small liberal arts university and Chris has worked with my students. She also has excellent contacts at the HB Studio in New York. Hope this is helpful to you.)
