(wordpress ate my formatting. and won’t let me reformat. i will have to open up a can of whoopass on WP to fix this!)

Back to business folks. Web 2.0 business. Now, I’ve been hearing some dissent in the blogging community regarding Web 2.0 and it’s chill factor. And dude, it’s so unchill to dis-Web 2.0. Dude. So. Non. Chill.

Today I’m gonna lay down the law on the 2.0 Social Networking Communities and Micro-blogging. Maxo Blogging platforms will be covered another day. Is that a word? Maxo. It is now. Ha.

Here’s what I like and don’t like:

Social Networking:

Facebook

It’s thing:

Everyone is on facebook. Everyone. Your ex-boyfriend(s), your high school bully, your dog, your entire family, your boss, your neighbour, your old high school English teacher, your parents, your friend’s parents, all dogs, some cats & now spambots! Yes!

  • Like: Reconnecting is fun. Connecting with new cool people is fun. New WordPress app. is super chill. Love it. Twitter & Web Presence app are sweet. Video app is useful.
  • Don’t like: All the other apps. People need to chill it with the apps. How many emotions/moods does one person need to emote? I have one mood. Chill. All the time. No seriously… your dog, your garden, your aquarium, your horoscope, fortune cookie, super wall, super poke, x-me, graffiti… ahh what is all this cluttered mess. It all looks like uber spam adware to me. And if I can’t find your wall in under 5s, my mood will change from chill —> unchill.

myspace

It’s thing: Bands are awesome.
Like: Nothing.
Don’t like: How much it sucks.

Virb

  • It’s thing: Chillest Place for the uber hip and techy. CSS heaven.
  • Like: Customizable CSS. The design is super chill. Love it. Everyone I meet on Virb is super cool and inspirational. Ease of sharing video, photos and embedding flickr, revver, vimeo. Cleanest site around.
  • Don’t like: Searching for people is still a bit tricky, but once you find a group you like, you can find people easily. Still quite fond of my wordpress blog, so I haven’t spent a lot of time customizing my page or joining groups, so I haven’t reached the level of chill that I’d like to on Virb.

Pownce

  • It’s thing:

Invite only message, file, link, event sharing network.

  • Like: Design is pretty cool. File sharing is quite useful.
  • Don’t like: I’ll admit to not spending a lot of time on Pownce, mostly because no one is on it yet. With my priorities elsewhere, I haven’t found the time to seek out a community on Pownce. We’ll see if this one catches on… May take some time.
  • Jaiku

    • It’s thing: The ultimate RSS collector.
    • Like: Love the look of it. Love the ease of updating and how low maintenance it is. It just collects all my feeds puts them in one spot. Good work.
    • Don’t like: Google ads that I don’t get paid for. Boo. No one I know is on Jaiku except Chief Twit, Leo Laporte.

    Tumblr.

    • It’s thing: All-star micro-blogging. Go nuts and share and embed and link to your heart’s content.
    • Like: That is rocks. Templates are super sweet. Low Maintenance. Simple. Easy.
    • Don’t like: Absolutely nothing. Get a tumblog. I dare you. Honestly, great for first time bloggers. So easy to use.

I’m out. Comments are always welcome.

And then go watch Jake and Amir. Chillest. Thing. Ever.

    Reviews of Media Webware 2.0

    Jul 28 2007

A month ago I was having some major Social Networking Nightmares. I was experiencing the Web 2.0 blues. Facebook was draining me. Myspace literally killed my soul. And I was lost in the infinite www.

    I was looking for:

A place to upload photo, video, audio content, and post updates in a nice, clean web space where I could network with other “media” and “tech” people and share my thoughts, gain info, and inspiration.

So I basically joined everything. Everything.

My absolute fav has got to be Twitter. i heart my Twitter friends and their uber techy nerdy updates. i love that they post links to sweet gadget news, web 2.0 stuff, apple stuff, videos, their flickr feeds. awesome!

And with twitter widget apps like Twitterific, Twidget and firefox mozilla add-on, TwitBin, the ease of updating and following tweets is easy peazy.

“Twitter is Nano-blogging at it’s very best!” ~Lisa Bettany.
    And you can quote me.

As for all the other webware… I’ll start with the media sharing sites. Here’s what I like and don’t like in a “list-type” format (with sub-headings and stuff. Just to be extra nerdy). Cuz that’s the way I like to Roll.

    Video Media Sharing:

    Revver

    • It’s thing: A viral ad gets placed at the end of your video and you get paid.
    • Like: $$$. Quality of the video encoding. That real people screen videos for content and copyright violations. And the wikkid support team who are super cool and helpful (and are also on twitter.com/revver, yay!)
    • Don’t like: Navigation of home site is a bit strange. Searching for videos is not the best. Community is quite fractured.

    Vimeo

    • It’s thing: Building a Video Sharing Community.
    • Like: Wikkid Community. Love the site look and design. Ease and speed of uploading videos is awesome.
    • Don’t like: Not much. Vimeo is super cool. I just have to get on adding more vids!

    Viddler

    • It’s thing: Video blogging called “Metoday” where Vidder peeps share their daily goings on videoblog stylez.
    • Liked: Strong community. The blogging/journaling style of the “metodays”.
    • Don’t like: The pressure. Couldn’t do it personally. Tried. Ended up with a video of me fixing my hair, staring at myself, and not saying anything. And unless someone is uber cool and doing cool things (more cool than fixing hair and staring), it is somewhat lame to follow their daily crappy web cam “metodays” about their cat’s fur ball problems.

    Photo Sharing

    Flickr

    • As far as i’m concerned there are no other photo sharing sites. Flickr is the bomb. And I just upgraded to a pro account. So it better be fricking amazing!

Tomorrow, I’ll give the low down on tumblr, pownce, jaiku, facebook; the great browser debate & chat webware.

    Can’t hardly wait, can you?

As always, I really wanna know what you think. So comment away! Let’s start a nerdy 2.0 debate! Sweet.
