Geeky Stuff Life

Limboland.

Normally, “organization skills” is listed in the positive attributes column of Mostly Lisa’s curriculum vitae. I’ve always enjoyed organizing and filing and labeling things and putting similarly grouped items into shoe boxes. Doing such things over the years has given me a “sense of accomplishment” and I believe I am good at it.

People often say to me, “your organization skill-set is certainly one of your more ‘positive’ personality traits.”

“Yes,” I answer. “I guess it is”.

However, the organization “skill-system” I use, is ‘unconventional’. What do those “quotation” ‘marks’ even mean? I don’t know I just like using them a lot.

I organize according to Lisa’s Optimum Visual Outcome Method. “LOVOM” is dictated by the following hierarchical categories:

  • Colour,
  • Size,
  • Shape
  • Texture.

For instance, in my closet, a navy blue tank top would be organized as:

  • Blue
  • (0, 0, 128)
  • (240°, 100%, 50%)
  • Small
  • Rectangular,
  • “Thinish”, soft, and “cottony”.In the last two months, LOVOM has hit a rough patch in the organizational paradigm of my household. As a result, “organizational skills” is currently teetering somewhere between the positive and negative column of my make-believe CV.

    Organization Status change: *in limboland*.

    Results of Organization Status: In limbo:

    • our respective closets are “out-of-order”;
    • i have no clean clothes that i actually want to wear;
    • there are dust bunnies in all corners;
    • i’m not sure what is under the couch, but i’m pretty sure what ever is there is doing nothing for the flow of my “Chi”;
    • electronic devices are not in their designated spaces;
    • i’m positive that there are moldy left-overs in tupperware(s) in the refrigerator;
    • and there are piles of dishes in the kitchen;
    • and we’re out of tea, sugar, jam, bread, eggs.

    You would think that any of these items would make my “Urgent To Do List”. Or that I should immediately make an “Urgent To Do List” and then start attacking these chores asap. You would think that, but “thinking” something does not make you actually “be”. That makes no sense.

    You think therefore I am. Wait. I think therefore I am. I can do it. I can do it. Yes I can. No I won’t. I’m not. Am not. No. T.

    PS. If you are missing the point of this post due to the highly academic nature of its content read the following papers I co-authored in my intellectual glory days: Phonetic Structure and Acquisition of Laryngeal and Pharyngeal Articulations: Text-Analysis Considerations or Le contrôle articulatoire phonétique dans le prébabillage.

    Are you serious? French? Linguistics? Phayrnge…uh… what? Uh… I just came here to get Jessie Farrell lyrics. So… where are they?

    “Let’s talk about love
    Let’s talk about friendship,
    Let’s talk about you and me.”

    Coulda figured that your yourself. Couldn’t you?

    Yeah, I guess so. *a moment passes* Uh, do you know what Brad’s favourite colour is?

    Blue.

    How do you know?

    He told me when we went to Tom Welling’s birthday party.

    Hi Lisa,

    I like to organize things based on how they make me feel. Honey-toasted kashi breakfast cereal makes me feel good, so I keep a box next to my bed. That way it’s the first thing that I see when I wake up, and I know I am going to have a great day having eaten a healthy, lorganic meal in the fellowship of Christian friends.

    Pet dander makes me feel sad because of the rash that I get when I breathe in too much of it. I “organize” pets by appreciating them as they walk by with their owners outside my window. I wave to them to let them know how much they mean to me even though I will never play with them.

    By the way, I love your photographs and your writing. You have given me a lot of ideas for my own blog that I hope to start soon.

    Best wishes,

    C.

    I love organized choas. This is a masterful display of it. Our closet is prefectly ordered and organized each week by garment and size. Bins for dainties. Hooks for hats, scarves and bags. Shelves for glorious shoes. Everything is color-coded and so is his.

    Sigh. Mine looks beautiful and his looks like a bomb hit it. Some things are never gonna change.

    Ry got back from tour 9 days ago and his large suitcase full of dirty clothes remains by the front door hogging up my boot and shoe spaces.

    My favourite brown suede boots are currently squeezed into the corner next to his dirty sneakers and an old tennis ball. They don’t like it there.

    Some things have GOTTA to change.
