Get a Gravatar already!

Gravatar > No Gravatar. Uh, i don’t get it, what’s a Gravatar?

“A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is a 80×80 pixel avatar image that follows you from blog to blog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites.”

Sounds awesome doesn’t it? but it must be super hard to do, right? wrong!

“Signing up for a gravatar.com account is FREE, and all that’s required is your email address.”

Just upload your personalized avatar, whether it is a Simpson’s character, an 8 bit graphic, your lovely face, or your cat Marmalade, and shizzam your gravatar will identify your quirky individuality when ever you comment on most blogs (especially mine) and web forums. and from a design perspective, it just looks cooler than a set empty gravatar place holder that usually makes you look like you’re under witness protection.

So whacha waiting for? Sign up for a gravatar already!

PS. Remember that the gravatar is assigned to one email address. so be sure to use the same email every time you comment, or it won’t appear.

PPS. The person with the best gravatar will win this lovely swan ice sculpture. that’s a lie. it’s already melted. it’s the thought that counts really. isn’t it?

I love Gravatars! I need to remember to incorporate them into my comments one day… AFTER I fix the part where the “Remember Me” checkbox doesn’t function along with the forty other things sitting on my back burner. Laziness, ftw!

I used to use gravatars on my site, and urged people to go sign up. Nobody did :( So I took them off.

It’s just me now.. Alone in gravatar land.

I use them. They remind me of LiveJournal user icons, and it’s nice to be able to see people’s faces attached to comments.

I do think it would be snazzy if WordPress or whatever would allow people to choose between a set of gravatars (you know, so I could be Milhouse Van Houten on your blog, Winona Ryder when discussing celebrities and my default icon when I want to be boring).

Alas. And you can set your gravatars for larger than 80×80 — I think they can be up to 125×125 or 160×160. :-)

@Rachelskirts — you never disappoint do you? love your gravatar! had to look up what ftw meant. i know. what kind of sad geek doesn’t know that. a great big loser that’s who.

@jon deal — don’t i know it. that swan was totally out posing me.

@Duane Storey — hold fast to your gravatar. it’s your commenting face on the blogosphere and true die hards like myself, hold a special place in my heart for a good gravatar. you are never alone.

@RBeezy — i’m not making any promises at this stage, but right now you’re tied for the lead with Rachel. i’ll give the other blog fans a few more days to gravatar me before i call a champion. then we’ll have to look into a seriously large cold packed pelican case to send that motha of a swan to ya.

I think that’s officially the first time I’ve actually used “FTW!” in a comment, so no worries. I’m ashamed to say that I picked that up while playing World of Warcraft, so really… you’re way better off for not knowing it.

@Rachelskirts — WOW. nice one. i think you just passed me on the geekiness scale.

PS. I think I’ve alienated all the non-gravatar people from commenting. *sniff*

I think your spam filter ate my comment. It was excellent too. I think it was because it included a link to this picture of Winona Ryder that I was saying I would use on certain blogs if allowed to use multiple gravatars. *tear*

@Christina — no need for tears, I found your excellent comment swimming in a sea of viagra spam and, oddly enough, truck engine parts spam! Always nice to have new spam to enjoy.

i did notice that the gravatars on your blog were extra large and lovely and so looked so nice. it made me hate you for a second. then i googled “that bitch Christina Warren” just to spite you.

PS Free Winona. Ahh the good old days!

Oh – and your comment made me laugh out loud. A rarity. Kudos.

Just signed up. Thanks for the tip. Why aren’t you using gravatar on the blog?
