Sharing a Photo: Canada Geeselings.

I snapped a shot these two Canada goslings or “geeselings” as I like to call them, on Granville Island. I had to lie in geese poop for about an hour to get this shot. I basically had to become one with the geese, a part of their family, to be accepted enough to get super close. Every so often a bratty kid would come running at them, whooping and waving plastic toys and the geese would go berserk hissing and flapping their wings and I’d have to wait for them to settle.

I’m so frustrated when people here call them “Canadian Geese.” Ugh. Canada geese, people! It’s a species name, not a nation of origin :)

“lie in geese poop” had me lol… I was out last night and shot some goslings, but I was NOT going to lie in it! I’ll lie in the mud, in dirt, even walk into the water to get a shot… but I AM NOT lying in goose poop! :)

Those geeeseses could have killed you at any second!! More Canadians die from such attacks than die from curling mishaps every year, FYI. You’re just setting a bad example for other model/photographers, you know.

Great Photos Lisa. Is the Lens you’re using the Canon 70-200mm f2.8? I recently rented that lens to shoot ‘Geeselings’ with some success. The mother even came up to me while I lied in the grass and hissed at me- then bit me in the ear! I figured if I was motionless I wouldn’t disturb them, but that was what she was waiting for.
I went home and nursed a cup of Twinings Earl Grey and bandaged my ear. I guess I’m lucky I didn’t get it pulled off!
