I think I’d have to go for the D3, sure it’d blow my budget but I could save up for extra lenses. Alternatively, maybe I’d spend it on travel, a road trip around Europe maybe.

A new Camera… probably not a professional level DSLR but something like the Canon EOS 450D or whatever it’s called in North America. Then a couple of lenses and a decent tripod.

O.k., Lisa… I actually just spent it this week… Heck, you only live once. I bought a Canon EOS 5D w/24-105 f4 L IS USM lens (w/ 5 year warranty) $3259.93… a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens (w/3 year warranty) $372.99… and Adobe Creative Suite (Standard) $1199.95…

… let’s see, that’s $4832.87!!!

I’m $167.13 under budget!!! (my girlfriend might not see it that way, but then again, $167.13 is a rather nice date night). :)

I’d go for a 4-continent oneworld Explorer around-the-world ticket for $4400 (various taxes and fees would gobble up the remaining $600 easily). I did one of these back in 2005 and it was awesome. Of course it was much cheaper back then; the same ticket in first class was less than $10000 all in, and now it starts at nearly $14000. I’d go to some of the places I missed in Australia and New Zealand (and hit some of the highlights of my previous trip again), then go to Japan and Thailand, maybe sample some European cities I haven’t seen yet (Prague tops that list), and stop over in New York on the return.

All this assumes I could get a month off from work again, which seems unlikely right now.

$5000 wouldn’t last long. One trip to the mall would pretty much take care of that. First the Apple store… get a MacBook Pro and Leopard and an iPod Touch and a crapload of accessories, then I’d spend the rest on a new wardrobe or a bunch of new books… or something.
