Two days in the life of Mashable CEO, Pete Cashmore

Last week while I was in San Francisco for Google I/O and the MashMeet SF After Party, I shot a short little “day in the life” documentary of Pete.

I shot the video with the same set-up I used at the Olympics, my 5DMKII, the RØDE VideoMic, and a Litepanels Micro LED light. The neck strap I’m using is the BlackRapids Rs-5 (perfect for storing my iPhone and extra memory cards).

I shot most of the party shots at 6400 ISO and used the LED to light people’s faces when they were talking. Next time I’m going to put a CTO (orange) gel on the LED to give people a nice tan, instead of the ghostly whites. Cuz let’s face it, us tech peeps need all the tan we can get. :P

I used the 16-35mm f/2.8 lens that I rented from Lens Rentals Canada, an awesome new online rental site. I ordered it online and the lens arrived within 2 days. I highly recommend it for trying out pro gear before you buy or just to experiment with L-lenses as they are soooo sexy.

In other news, the iPhone app I’ve been working on just launched Beta! It’s so close to being done. Can’t wait to share it with you!

    Lisa,

Your material always looks so good–exposure, color, composition–and makes me want to just get out there and shoot! Pete always looks good, but thanks for making my little city by the bay look so nice.

    Take care,
    Todd

    Hi Lisa,

The video turned out really great! Also wanted to say it was great to have met you at the Bloomberg offices in SF. We get a lot of big business people in the office which is cool, but never anyone big in photography so I was super excited to have gotten a chance to talk with you. Anyways I look forward to checking out your future work.

The orange gel works great on my d90 rig. Sometimes I also pump up the WB and I find it can help warm the people up and even get rid of cold areas in a shot with mixed lighting.
Just got to hope that for a Nikon with 1080p..

Downloaded Camera+, HDR filter is really cool and can’t wait to use it with the iPhone 4.

    Lisa –
Amazing photos! I downloaded the camera+ app yesterday and love it, will be posting photos soon. A quick question, the dual hot shoe mount you are holding in the photo in this post, can you please direct me towards one for purchase. I have been looking for this exact rig and am having trouble finding one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Blessings –
