I seriously think that was the most awkward half-laugh I have ever heard. Is that wireless? Oy-ve. LOL

That’s a sweet piece of glass you have there. I think you are a wise gal renting them to try them all on for size. :D

From one Canadian to the other, Happy Canada Day (one day late), eh?

So pretty much I think if we ever met IRL, we’d be pretty much bffs. Just because we’re both awesome… and Canadian.
    Eh?

    I want some poutine.

Too much noise, and the background music makes it even more difficult to listen.

Did you feel uncomfortable or worried about your gear when the guy came over or were you going to get up anyway?

@Hules — That guy was the 20th person to come up to me that weekend asking about my camera. i was seriously pissed off.

    @Miiitch — so Canadian.

@Apoorv — i realize that. first and only video i will be shooting on the Flip Mino.

@MattFM — i would seriously fight someone like a rapid beaver to protect my gear.

I suppose it is inevitable that we shall meet at some local event (my wife and I almost came to Steak Camp). I shall have to try and remember the “Is that wireless” line.

Some random thoughts on being Canadian, geekiness and beavers.

Although we spend most of Canada day driving home from Kitchener to Ottawa, I took the boys to see the fireworks in Kanata (Canada’s geek capital). We’ll have to do the parliament hill fireworks again some day, but I’m afraid of loosing one of my boys in the crowd.

Since beavers are Canadian icons and beavers are also nature’s engineers (I never cease to be amazed by their dams and lodges), does that make Canada more geeky than other nations?

Nice creative blog, keep up the good work.

Don’t worry, I get the same comment all the time when I’m out shooting that lens. I have the same one…on a 1D Mk II…which scares people when I do the whole 8.5 frames per second thing. I freaked out my sushi chef yesterday…after which he exclaimed “SUGOOOII!!!”

Are you thinking about buying one? It’s one of the best lenses you’ll ever buy. I can’t live without mine. If you are, give me a shout and I’ll hook you up with my importer where I get all my camera equipment at MUCH lower prices than local stores (You’ll save hundreds over buying LD, Kerrisdale, Lens&Shutter, etc). Yes, you get a receipt, full warranty and yes, it’s legal. ;)

Delightful tribute to Canada Day. I celebrated at a tapas bar near Plaza del Sol in Madrid (where the jubilation over their Euro 2008 triumph is just starting to subside). Both times since I moved to Canada I’ve been out of the country on Canada Day.

I’m still laughing. Very smooth. We celebrated by being all polite and drinking a few beers. Our mission was to sing the anthem en francais in the bar but no one could remember it and we were aware that as usual we were the smallest folk at the bar. Le sigh. 4th of July tomorrow, I better get down to the air raid shelter, it’s terror alert Elmo.

Love the lens cap holder… very cool. ;-)

Oh, did any of the 20 folks that came up to you ask “so, you takin a few pictures?”. I get that sometimes – more so with the 70-200 lens than anything else.
