Buffy.

Bet you didn’t think I could be any bigger of an uber nerd after all my nerd things posts (apple, pez, and gear)? Well think again.

Here’s my Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVD collection. All 7 seasons of it.

My Buffy collection

Please don’t calculate the cost. It hurts me to to “quantify” my Buffy obsession. Rather, I like to think of Buffy as an “essential” cost of living, like cupcakes, consumer electronics and Visine during allergy season (errrggg!). Can’t put a price tag on cupcakes, can you? Well, Cupcakes can. $13.50 for 6 flippin’ cupcakes. Now that hurts me.

Back to Buffy, the Slayer of the Vampires. Since meeting Carrie (also uber Buffy fan), I have agonized over choosing my favourite Buffy episodes. Well, maybe “agonized” is a little too dramatic, “delegated some thought towards in concentrated bursts” is more accurate. You see, after watching Buffy more than once (try, at least 10 times) my favourite characters, moments, and episodes tend to change depending on my mood, attitude and level of attentiveness while watching the Buffster. So, it’s difficult for me to separate my temporary “feelings” from my favourite Buffy moments. But, I’ll try. Keep on truckin’ like the trooper that I am.

Lisa’s Favourite Buffy Episodes:

  1. The Body (Season 5)
  2. Smashed — Wrecked — Gone (as a trilogy, Season 6)
  3. Something Blue (Season 4)
  4. Surprise (Season 2)
  5. Hush (Season 4)
  6. The Gift (Season 5)
  7. Tabula Rasa (Season 6)
  8. Angel (Season 1)
  9. New Moon Rising (Season 4)
  10. Doppelgangland (Season 3)
  11. School Hard (Season 2)
  12. Restless (Season 4)
  13. Storyteller (Season 7)
  14. Band Candy (Season 3)

Not quite the stereotypical favourites, are they? Except “Hush” and “The Body”. Every Buffy fan has to pick these two Whedon favs, or we wouldn’t be uber fans, now would we?

Is this where you want me to post?

    Top 5 Buffys:

5)Seeing Red – season 6 episode 19…simply because they finally get rid of Tara. Whining waste of space.

4)The Body – season 5 episode 16…the quick cut sequence when Buffy fantasizes about her mom making a recovery, then cut back to her body again was gut wrenching and genius.

    3) Once More With Feeling – season 6 episode 7…wow

    2) Chosen – series finale…A bit of a cheesy choice, but Joss was back writing/directing, and it showed. Josh cried.

    1) HUSH – season 4 episode 10…HANDS DOWN!! BRILLIANT!

I have never seen one episode of Buffy. Ever. I know…that’s weird, right? I’ve also never seen any of the Star Wars movies…new or old.

    Lisa,

It almost made me shed a tear of joy just now when you referred to “shilly tears”.

Can I say something? Thank you. Thank you very, very much

No thanks needed. Just being able to connect on such a level is such an honour that I feel like I should be thanking you for sharing the Shilly with me. I’m wearing the shirt right now just to feel a *close bond* with “special” things.

    Special things like Shilly.

Oh Yay! Finally. I was just thinking the other night that I never heard back from you on this one. You’ve got some great ones here and when I get back to Canada next month, I’m going to haul out my collection and watch ’em again. Hail to all things Buffy!

When I’m having a bad day, i just think “What would Buffy do?” It helps me gain inner strength. With this boost of inner strength I feel an uncontrollable need to go put on some skin tight leather pants, go out for a run, and the stake some evil beastie. It’s too bad that I don’t own leather pants. It really is the most important thing. I think it is because you are so mobile in leather pants…

When you get back, we can do a joint post all about Buffy. It will be detailed, deep, and most definitely nerdy. You know, I’ve seen Masters degrees that analyze Buffy episodes for their theses. That’s a wee bit intense for me, but having an unhealthy obsession with hot and sexy vampires (as portrayed in Buffy/Angel and Anne Rice novels), not the yucky zombie ones (as portrayed in John Carpenter’s “Los Muertos”) is perfectly normal. Isn’t it???

PS I’m excited to have you back in the beautiful Canada. Where are you guys staying when you come home?

    I like Buffy.

I have all seasons as well as Angel.

It was a good run and it’s kind of addictive. It’s not like Sarah Michelle Gellar was the best actress, but the actors definitely had some synergy.

Not seen any Star Wars movies? Now that’s not good.

(I left them in Canada, but I’m getting them again digitally)

    Buffy… Angel. Buffy… Parker? Buffy… Riley. Buffy… Dracula? Buffy… Spike!

    Está confuso.

I can’t get enough of Buffy. I am currently “revisiting” the fourth season as I feel the need for some “initiative” in my life. Get it??? Initiative. Wow. I’m such a nerd.

    Yeah.

NB. I own ALL Star Wars. ALL. Even the crappy one(s). You know which one(s). The crappy no chemistry one and the one with Jar-Jar. There are arguments on both sides. I know. Let’s not get crazy here.

PS. I may have ripped the crappy ones instead of buying them.

Mac the ripper says, “Pirating is bad…”

Bomberman says “… if you get caught.”

I threw away my Buffy collection. It looked just like yours. My parents got me the entire collection a few years ago (my sister threw season 6 in the tub because she is evil) and a few months ago, I just had to dump the original collection. I’m somewhat of a hoarder and I kept telling myself “why do you need those damn box sets?” They weren’t in good condition like yours. Season 7 was alright, but I got 4 when I was about 9 and…well, yeah. The old ones were a mess. I lost some of the boxes for them, so what was the point right? Now my collection is neat and orderly…and okay I am so mad at myself! There were memories attached to the individual box sets! Opening a new one on Christmas, pretending not to know what it was, watching my family roll their eyes when I refused to come out of my room until the newest season I’d just received was over. I am just ranting about how much of a fool I was to throw them away. But it makes sense right? I’m rationalizing. But truly, why the hell should I have kept 3 or 4 box sets? The others were in awful condition and who wants a half-assed collection? They were useless, scratched up discs….oh why didn’t I just turn them all into trendy bracelets and earrings! Why why why why why why why!?!?!?! I am insane. Rant over.
