A Real Moment.

I am happy to present the first post from my new photography series entitled: People.

Family in English Bay, Vancouver.

Introduction to Lisa’s People Photography Series:

I am a rather shy photographer so I don’t usually take pictures of people. And since I bought the “Beast” that is my SLR camera, I have found it very difficult to capture candid moments of friends and family. You see, not many people like having their picture taken when they are not “posing” or “mugging”, and they get even more sketched out when you point a huge camera in their face and say “just act natural”.

Plus, technically speaking, capturing “people” moments is complicated because moments only happen once, so you have to be fast and accurate the first time.

“OMG that was so funny when Stu tripped over the dog and landed face first in the birthday cake!” Did you get that? No! Oh. You missed it. That sucks.”

You know what else sucks? Recreated moments of moments that just happened. “Hey Stu! Stu! Can you do that again because we need to take a picture of you for our “Party Times Wall of Shame. You broke your nose? That sucks. But you’ll do it again for $20? Sweet.”

The point is that people, unlike cupcakes, like to blink and talk and walk. And as a “people” photographer you are always working on the fly in different lighting conditions. And when you hit that low light you always have to ask yourself: To flash or not to flash? Because people really love it when you flash a sharp, bright light in their eyes. Always.

It’s tricky business, but I’m gonna do my darndest to try and capture some people pictures, because apparently, there are way more people than cupcakes.

not true. if everyone in the world with the resources to make cupcakes started making cupcakes simultaneously 24/7 and no one ate them, pretty soon there would be more cupcakes than people.

Let’s get that operation started! Operation Cupcake. Give us all something to believe in.

I’m totally gonna start an Operation Cupcake facebook group. It’s gonna be, like, the biggest FB group since that stupid one about naming your kid, like, spiderman. How lame would that be!?!
