Here’s a fun game I started last year just to amuse myself. I’d really like you to amuse yourself too. Wait. That came out wrong. Erg! Just play the game ok?
Are You an Über-Geek?
NB. You must OWN the following items featuring the above Marvel-ous Superheroes (and one DC dude) in order to add points to your score.
+10 points for every DVD you own.
+15 points for every DVD you purchased even though you disliked the movie, but bought it anyways, because you are such a huge geek.
+5 points for every DVD you ripped.
+1 point for every Marvel or DC-Movie CD Soundtrack you own. (That’s all I can give you. Frankly, I’m embarrassed for you).
+5 points for every mint-condition comic book you own. (Comic book must be in protective plastic sleeve to count.)
-5 points for every Marvel/DC comic book you have left unprotected against the elements, i.e., moisture, dust, cat fur, and wind/rain/snow. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Bonus Points: +2.5 points if you also own “The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” DVD box set.
For more of my uber fun Pez series check out:
The International Language of Pez
Star Wars Pez
Yub Nub

Guy: Is that a camera?
Me: What? *takes off headphones. turns off SLR.*
Guy: Yeah cuz I saw you taking pictures… So I thought I would come over… Yeah. Is that a good camera? Cuz I was thinking about getting a camera cuz all my friends are all like, why don’t have any pictures up on facebook? Are you on facebook?
Me: Who isn’t? *turns on camera. starts flipping through photo previews on my SLR.*
Guy: So, will you add me?
Me: Ok. *inching away*
Guy: Yeah, great! I don’t check my email every day because I don’t have internet at my place. I’m not really good on computers. Yeah, so, like, if you add me today, I probably won’t get it for like a week cuz that’s when I go to my parent’s place in Chilliwack. They have internet so… Yeah, well I’ll let you get back to your photos. I’m gonna go grab a cold one and just chill out.
Nice one. I bet that guy was thinking, “Score! The “is that a camera” pick-up works every time with those photographer chicks! Maybe I shoulda given her my name or something? Nah, she’ll find me. There are only like a couple of guys from Vancouver on facebook. She’ll recognize me from my photo anyway. Oh crap! I really need a camera… Oh man, look at that blonde chick in those tight yoga pants. Damn she’s fine!”
Guy: Are those boobs?

I just sorted all my photo, video, computer and AV gear. These are the casualties. Some are totally dunzo, others still have a bit of juice left, and some are functional, just completely obsolete. So I really had to be really brutal in getting rid of things that I no longer need or use on a regular basis. I kept at least one of every cable cuz you never know when you are gonna need a rare or random cable. It happens almost once every week for me. So I like to keep all my ducks in the basket… a row. I think my smarts are currently disintegrating with every tv season I cram into a 48 period (which is Flight of the Conchords today).
It breaks my heart to bin this stuff. Does anyone know a good charity that I could donate any of the working gear to? Are there any charities that could make use or make money from recycling stuff like old cell phones and their chargers, film cameras, VCRs, an Apple G3 monitors? I may even have an LC475 kicking around somewhere.
I would also like to know if anyone knows of any organizations that recycle any electronics for parts or safely dispose of batteries and other environmentally toxic materials.
Thanks for your comments!

Ok, so you know how last week I said that I was spending way too much time joining, profiling, friending, surfing and searching for lost passwords on the plethora of buzzing social nets on the www? And how I was gonna start to take control of my iLife by chucking out the social nets I didn’t think were useful/cool/interesting/informative and committing my time to more useful pursuits?
Yeah. Well. After one week I have been about thiiiis successful:
AKA: Not. So. Much.
(Aside: Remember how Xander used to say that all the time? Sometimes I miss the Scoobies so much it hurts).
I guess it’s my rebellious nature, but after making that “resolution”, the temptation for joining new social nets was even greater. And my delight in breaking the rules, resulted in the following:
Stumbleupon
Mashable
9 rules
So far the thing that’s annoyed me the most is that Mashable, StumbleUpon, and Digg are all incompatible with Safari? What gives? I had to download Firefox again just to complete my profile. This does not bode well for these nets as I am a Safari only user. And although I love the beautifully designed FF logo and the ease of the delicious plug-in I’m just feel more, well, “me” when I use Safari. And let’s not downplay the importance of feeling comfortable with your browser. I mean if you can’t be yourself with your browser, then how can you really be legit with your IM client?
I also got avatar friendly with the following blogging communities:
Twenty Something Bloggers
BlogCatalog
Bloglog
If you have any valid reasons for me to dump any of these or the nets on my sidebar i.e. Jaiku totally blows OR Pownce artificially inseminated me with evil alien spawn OR my ex-boyfriend stalked me on Facebook (all true by the way… mostly).
**Please help me. I have a problem. Perhaps someone should intervene and take temporary legal control over my social net affairs and assets.

I just received an email from Sébastien Petain, the editor in chief of BH Mag.FR, the website that published this article, directing readers to vote for Wired’s sexiest geek. The article included a photo of myself and iJustine as an example of the contest’s cliché geekettes. I was a bit chuffed when I read this and wrote a bit of a ranty post aboot it.
But, apparently I got it all wrong. Sébastien writes:
We are not saying that YOU are a cliché. In France there are two words to say “photo”: photo (of course ;p) and cliché! The right translation of the text would be: “I am also under an obligation to illustrate this news with few photos.” I hope that you understand now that there was no offense in this news about you or about all the girls of this contest.
So we can all stop blaming the French! In celebration of this news, I will eat a buttery baguette whilst wearing a beret and watching Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless”.
