What I need:

A place to upload photo, video, and audio content in a nice, clean web space where I can network with other “media” people and share my thoughts, gain info and inspiration.

These are my current social networking options (within reason — there a hundreds of them!)

  1. myspace is a gong show. A show about a gong. It is not for me. Period.
  2. Tagged looks too much like an ad Red Bull or Target to be taken seriously. (Sorry Arry!)
  3. friendster is much too Googly. Too much Google scares me.
  4. facebook is a quarter to “dunzo” — thanks to the following lame* things:
  • The Great 3rd party Application Invasion” (See Lamefactor, where you can anonymously judge your friends. Yeah, that’s healthy!? And after playing that fun game, you can find a happy hour near you, cuz a temporary drunken haze will make you feel much better about anonymously judging your friends.)
  • Facebook’s top secret dealings with big business and the CIA. (Oh what a tangled web we weave…)
  • the “poke”, now the super poke, x me, etc. i don’t get it. do you?
  • and the sheer quantity of time it takes to filter through the insignificant play-by-play mini- feeds of people leaving groups, joining networks, adding or retracting their favourite songs to actually get to what you really want to know:

how great do I look in this profile picture? hey?

You look exactly the same.

yeah, well I actually lost a bit of weight since high school, you know, pilates, yoga and dieting. Actually, there is this great facebook application that counts all the calories you eat each day. Wow. It’s been great. Well, except the eating disorder flare up. anyway, how are you? Oh. Yeah. Well, I’m really happy. HAPPY. Can’t you see how much I’m SMILING in these pictures with me and my BOYFRIEND in CANCUN. Yeah, it was pretty fun.

NB. there are cool people on facebook (like Merlin for instance) and reconnecting and sharing stories and photos with the bright lights in my life has been great.

The point is:
I need to increase productivity and start getting Redpilot’s web presence established on the www asap.
Lately I’ve been musing about VIRB… More on that tomorrow.

I like to hear from you:
What social networking site do you use and why do you like it?

I don’t like social networks, because it’s an “AllInOne” and that’s not good for best productivity.

May be you need a stand-alone blog and interacting it with various social websites. My point is:
    - SA-blog has more performance, it can be designed, it also more ’searchable’ (google, yahoo, etc)
    - you can use Flickr, YouTube, Odeo for upload you media (photos, videos, mp3s) - this is additional traffic for web

The bad side of this model is a lot of time, but as a goal Redpilot will known in all of that soc. networks, more people will recognize Redpilot’s name.

If you don’t ready to spend so much time, so, you’re write, and you need to use VOX or Blogger (you can point domain name to you blog and customize a lot of things).

    http://www.vox.com/
    https://www.blogger.com/

I hope it will help you, Lisa. :)

I prefire to use msn for chat and Flickr for photos. I have tested Badoo (Badoo.com) that includes chat, remote messages, photo hosting and so on, but i think that this is oriented mainly to dating relationships and i not interested in that.

I’m testing the FB waters right now, but I’m not sure it’s my thing yet. I’ve used Tribe on and off for a few years, but it’s not network-y.

I have to admit that my fave way to do all this is face to face. I like actually meeting people, having coffee, going to something rather than hanging out on my ‘puter, alone.

To make things tougher, I’m resistant to giving my $$ to folks like flickr. Nothing against them personally, I just think the $$ might do more good for me elsewhere…
